Technology & Teaching Question

What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of using digital books/ipads in schools? Do you think that all schools in the United States will use ipads in the future?

  1. It's absolutely going to be the future. Textbooks are so expensive to manufacture, even after you pay the writers for their work, that schools can save real money by switching to digital copies. Also, if you see a ninth grader walking around with a backpack larger than she is, you'll understand why we have to move to digital books.

  2. I like the feel of the paper in a book. However, I do not get a newspaper, everything I want to read I read online. Maybe getting Ipads for classes would be cost efficient because is would save costs for out-dated books. Technology is changing so fast, it is almost a certainty that classrooms will change with it. Like Ipads.

  3. The use of ipads in the classroom could be a blessing and a curse. The ability to access information quickly online, combined with apps like Evernote would facilitate the learning process. Ipads however, could also serve as a distraction as students might spend more time on social media sites then working on the subject at hand.
